MMR (measles-mumps-rubella) vaccine causes side effects (fever). According to Prof. Greg Atkins, virologist, it is wrong to consider the concerns of parents about vaccination for their children as unfounded: “MMR vaccine project comes from the fact that a number of adverse effects have been observed.” “Autism is the greatest fear of parents and, despite the fact that the studies suggest that there is no link between autism and the MMR, vaccine there are other side effects that make it highly desirable development of a vaccine with fewer risks.”
According to Pr Atkins, “side effects come from the fact that the MMR vaccine uses three live virus (although attenuated and weakened) measles, mumps and rubella”.
Pr Atkins, positioned entirely in favour of vaccination, wishes to develop a vaccine that uses virus ‘living’.
His approach is to use viral RNA to promote stimulation of effective and lasting immunity against these three diseases. “We use recombinant RNA molecules” says Pr Atkins, develops new consisting of technology using RNA molecules as a vector to express proteins produced by the virus of the three diseases.
Messenger RNA recombinant is capable of producing the same proteins virus living but it has the advantage of performing only a series of protein production of decompose.
The real challenge however, is to find a way to obtain the RNA in enough cells to induce a sufficient level of immunity.
NMRC (National Microelectronics Research Centre) at the University of Cork has perhaps the solution through the method development, so-called “Electroporation”. Studies conducted by the team of Pr Atkins takes place at the “Institute of Preventative Medicine Moyne” (Trinity College…)
